At an altitude of 3200 meters, Entoto Hill is the highest point in Addis Ababa. It was once the location of the first palace of Emperor Menelik-II, the city’s founder. On the hill, there is the St. Mary church, where Emperor Menelik was crowned, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and its surrounding forests with fresh mountain air.

The National Museum of Ethiopia was established in the main campus of Addis Ababa University by the Institute of Ethiopian Studies with the goal of safeguarding the nation’s cultural and historical treasures. It boasts a comprehensive collection showcasing nearly all of Ethiopia’s tribal groups. Visitors can gain a broad understanding of the history, culture, and traditions of the Ethiopian people through the exhibits, which include those of the nomadic tribes who still live today much as their forefathers did thousands of years ago.
The Holy Trinity Church is a stunning example of baroque European architecture, unparalleled in Ethiopia and Africa. It is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and houses scripts of imperial families, sculptures crafted by a Greek artist, stained glass window paintings depicting stories from the Old and New Testament, and the coffins of Emperor Haile Selassie I, the church’s founder, and his spouse.
The St. George Cathedral, situated at the center of the city, it is the church where Emperor Haile Selassie was crowned Emperor of Ethiopia. Its museum houses the clothing and personal belongings of former Ethiopian monarchs, religious crosses, manuscripts, and ancient paintings.

An Extinct volcano
Depart Addis Ababa in the early morning and travel west to Lake Wenchi, a breathtaking crater lake. Debrelibanos Monastry
Depart from Addis Ababa (approximately 100km to the north) and head to the Debre Libanos Monastery. The 13th century monastery was established by St. Tekle Haimanot, who, as legend has it, prayed standing on one leg for seven years until the other leg gave out. In the vicinity of the monastery is the Portuguese Bridge, which was the first bridge built in Ethiopia. Visitors may also have the opportunity to observe the endemic Gelada baboons. Short hikes offering breathtaking views of the Jemma Valley are available in the area. Return to Addis Ababa in the late afternoon.
Adadi Mariam and Tiya
